Family Support

Rowell Family Empowerment has several support activities currently in place to help parents deal with the overwhelming emotional rollercoaster that coincides with having a child with a disability or special needs. You'll find our support activities offer more than just support, as you'll learn and interact with others in similar situations and at community events.

Those who attend support activities include those who need support, those who can help others and those who simply want to be involved. The majority of RFENC staff have children with disabilities ranging from autism to spina bifida, so we know how you feel and we know what you're going through. We are on the same road.

Our activities are often fun, encouraging and inspirational. And chances are good we have a group that's a perfect fit for you, whether you're looking for a Father's Group or a group of parents of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children.

Butte Behavior Support Group This is a time for parents to network, encourage and support one another in the many different aspects of raising a child with behavior needs. Meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6-8pm at 2030 Park Avenue in Chico. Email Melissa at meldlabrado@yahoo.com for more information.	Down Syndrome Group Specifically for Moms of children with Down Syndrome. This group strives to meet on the second Tuesday of every month in Redding and is ran by Kelly Jackson, who can be reached at (530) 223-4096 or by email at norcalbuddies@yahoo.com.
Deaf & Hard of Hearing A group of Shasta parents who have Deaf and hard-of-hearing children meet to talk, share stories and laugh together! Our meeting is usually on a Monday evening but it can rotate so if you want more information contact Barbara at the Redding office 226-5129	Grandparent/Caregiver Support Group Every second Tuesday this group meets at the RFENC office in Redding. This group is for those who are raising another family member, such as a grandparent raising their grandchild. For more info or to be involved call Barbara at 226-5129 or Therese at 245-7704.
Autism Group in Redding S.L.A.T.E (Successful Living with Autism through Training and Education) meets once a month. Even if your child has Aspergers, PDD-NOS, etc you are welcome to join! These meeting are always informative and many parents attend. For more information email Gina at ginag@rfenc.org.	Tehama County Support Group This group meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30pm at the Tehama County Department of Education in Red Bluff. Butte Spectrum Group A support group for those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. This group meets in Butte County. For more information call 876-8321.	Children's Diabetes Support Group ...at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Meets every second Saturday of the month. For more information call Karen at 225-5478.
Español Groups We have several support groups in Spanish, meeting in Chico, Orland and Red Bluff. Please contact us directly for more information.	Down Syndrome Group in Butte We are now looking for a parent facilitator for this group since the current one is relocating. If you're interested please contact Sherry at 876-8321 Ext. 23!
